Confessions of a Garden Spot Employee

My grandma is the owner of a restaurant called "The Garden Spot." They serve lunch and dinner. One of the lunch waitresses quit on them and they were down one. So when all else fails you call in back-up. Back-up at The Garden Spot is me. Here are a couple things that I have learned while working at The Garden Spot.

1. Sliced cheese is called just that, sliced cheese. Not flat cheese
2. When I have two drinks in my hand please don't ask me to give you a straw, unless you want to get it yourself. ;)
3. I absolutly love it when you tell me you didn't order the drink you TOLD me you did.
4. The coffee shop down the street serves "Frappos", they might even serve Frappes...;)
5. I hate refilling the ketchup.
6. I always forget to give you your crackers when you order a salad (Getting better)
7. The last name "Reason" sounds a LOT like "Leavin" over the phone.
8. I love to cut lemons...they smell so nice. Its my favorite job. (No sarcasm)
9. The Garden Spot has a million dressings for your salad...and I have to remember them...ALL!
10. And last of all....I really do enjoy my job :)

OH WOW!

Well folks...its been a long time...and when I mean long I mean I haven't posted anything on my blog since...SUMMER STARTED! I know, I know. Don't hate.

Summer is practically over. So I thought I'd write a little letter to my good friend Summer.

                   Dear Summer,
I love you. Plain and simple. We get along. Your warm rays shining on my face when I lay on the sandy shore of the beach. The crickets chirping away. The smell of hawaiian tropic tanning oil. The taste of salty water on my tongue when I dive headfirst into a wave too big to bob over. The greenery everywhere I look. Summer, I love you.
                          Oh why must you go?

                                                        Love,
                                                                 Darria
P.S. When I hear the mosquito truck, I'll know you are back.

So there. That's my letter to Summer. I am getting excited for school to start back but I am not quite sure I'm ready for it yet. I still love the idea of being able to wake up when I please and frolic throughout the fields of daisies.   :)

So I found a great song... Leave Right Now. Okay so the video is a little weird. Its still good :)

Well that's about it. Like Porky Pig says "That's all folks"

Life is but a vapor

I just read perhaps one of the best books I have ever picked up. The name is "Point Blank" by Mark Rempel. I highly recommend it. It really puts time in perspective. We don't have much time. We need to realize that our lives can be taken from us at any point. And at the end of your time are you going to have regrets? One day God is going to come and take his children out of the filth that our sin has created. Are we going to be ready? Is the Lord going to say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." or "I don't know you?"

Perhaps you know the song Who Am I by Casting Crowns. The chorus says exactly what I am trying to say...

"I am a flower quickly fading. Here today and gone tomorrow, a wave tossed in the ocean, a vapor in the wind. Still You hear me when I'm calling. Lord, You catch when I'm falling and You've told me who I am. I am Yours. I am Yours..." - Who Am I by Casting Crowns

Who are you? Are you a child of God? Where do you stand? Life is but a vapor...where will you be when your time is up?

Summer...

Love is to the heart what the summer is to the farmer's year - it brings to harvest all the loveliest flowers of the soul. ~Author Unknown

When do you KNOW its summer? When you have to wear sunscreen? When go swimming? When you get out of school?

I know its summer when I hear the mosquito truck. (You know the one that goes around spraying mosquito spray?) Its not something most people think about when they think of summer, but when I hear that truck I KNOW its summer.

Webster defines summer like this: the season between spring and autumn comprising in the northern hemisphere usually the months of June, July, and August or as reckoned astronomically extending from the June solstice to the September equinox

I define summer like this: hot, mosquitoes, Off (bug spray), hot dogs, bonfires, ocean water, camp, laughter, bees, flowers, swimming pools, baseball, ice cream, mission trip, sunshine, bathing suits, steak, sunscreen, water hoses, dresses, sprinklers, firecracker Popsicles, bike rides, beach cottage, lemonade, flip-flops, hammocks, friends, fireworks, tans, shorts, sunsets, flowers, my family.

That's my definition of summer.

YouTube...LOVE IT!

I was checking out Jenny b Jones' Blog the other day when I saw a YouTube video of a boy singing Paparazzi by Lady Gaga. He's amazing! CHECK HIM OUT! WOW! that's the only word that can come out of my mouth. He's twelve years old from what I have gathered at least...but this boy blows my mind! I wanna get this kids autograph! Can we give the boy a round of applause?

This guy deserves some recognition as well...Lin Yu Chun. He kills Whitney's song! Go dude! For those who haven't heard Whitney Houston sing it click HERE! My man Lin Yu Chun can hit it!

And this song has become my favorite song. I'm absolutely in love with it! Isn't it pretty? And the pictures are gorgeous! Oh My Gosh...love it....*smile*

I have one question...Who's on first? That says it all....I have one more thing to say...THIRD BASE!

Its been looooooong time!

Well hey people! I know, i know....Its been a loooong time since I've blogged....I'm truly sorry. Now apologies aside....

I've been laughing all day about this conversation I had a couple weeks ago. I'm telling you its making me laugh......So my family, my friends and I were all out eating fast food right before we went to go see my little brother play baseball [he's quite the baseball player...] and we start talking about grandparents well one of my friends, Sam, says, "Whenever we go camping my grandpa is always like, 'shut the door you're letting the flies out!'" Well me and my bestie, Hannah [who's also Sam's sister], are like "Yeah." Then Sam looks at us funny and says, "Wait, I meant to say 'don't let the flies IN not OUT...Yeah he loves flies." I declare I'm still laughing over this!!!!!!!

Anyways......

I wanna wish my mama a happy mother's day! I love you to death Mama and I always will...thanks for always being there for me and taking care of me. Thanks for keeping me from things that I didn't understand at the time but realize [and will realize :] that it was for my own good, that you were looking out for me. Thank-you for loving Anderson, Finley and me even when we got in fights and didn't put up our laundry. Thank-you for the little things, like holding me when I'm sick, buying me owls :], praying for my future husband, giving me medicine when my braces are killing me, and taking me shopping. Thank-you for the big things, like showing me who my Savior is, homeschooling me, and feeding me healthy food. Mama I dedicate this song to you, I had the best day with you today! Mama, I love you and always will!

Hope ya'll have a great day!

Pretty funny you-tuber

This has to be the funniest quote I've ever heard I got it as a tweet from Julian Smith, it said

"Best quote ever, And then God created Saturn and he liked it so he put a ring on it." -Julian Smith

Now I have no idea where he got that quote but he sent it to me so I'm giving credit to him. But the author of it obviously got the idea from the song Single Ladies by Beyonce. I just thought it was so stinking funny! I mean for real!

Julian Smith is pretty funny himself. He is a You-Tuber. (I have no idea what the 'correct' term for that is but I'm using 'You-Tuber' sounds fine to me.) Here is a couple of sketches that I find pretty funny, Hot Kool-Aid, Trees Hate YouYou In Five Minutes, and Jacquese And The Date. Those are probably my favorites...he has some merchandise as well...here is the link to that...Julian Smith's merch

OK I now KNOW what you are thinking....and the answer is no, Julian Smith is NOT paying me. I don't even know this guy.

The Beach...

"Can ye fathom the ocean, dark and deep, where the mighty waves and the grandeur sweep? "
Fanny Crosby

The other day, I wrote a short story about the beach...tell me what you think!

My feet dig into the cool sand. One deep breath, and you know exactly where I am. The beach. I plop down on the sand and look at my wrist. Shoot! I forgot my ponytail holder. Oh, well. I let the sea breeze whip my long brown curly hair about my face. I can feel the saltiness of the air on my skin and throughout my hair. I lay back. Resting and listening to the Atlantic Ocean's waves lap the shore of Nags Head.
Its 5:30 in the morning on June 21. Normally, tourists come to watch the sunrise on the beach, but today the Wright Brother's Memorial Park is having some healthy 'Wright Breakfast,' so the beach is free of newlyweds, families, and older couples. Its quiet, save for the cry of sea gulls overhead.
The sky is pink now. I sit up and feel the grit in my hair. A ways down the beach I see a lone sand piper. "How tranquil, how beautiful," my voice breaks the sounds of nature. I place my hands beside me to get up and my fingers find a shell. A treasure. I put 'God's jewlery' into the pocket of my jean shorts. The sun is peeking over the ocean. I run to the water's edge to greet it. The cold water runs around my ankles. I look up to the sky and thank the Creator of this beach. A large wave knocks me off my feet as if to say, "You're welcome, my child, enjoy what I have made for you."

How did you like it? I was outside when I wrote it...I could almost FEEL the sand between my toes! Oh how I love the beach....

A Really Good Quote

The other day I pull up my iGoogle page and on it was the quotes for the day. It read,

Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity.
Christopher Morley

Is that not something to think about? Why do we always try to be like "everyone else?" Why do we go buy the clothes that "everyone else" is buying? Why do we do what "everyone else" is doing? Why do we listen to what "everyone else" is listening too? I don't know about ya'll but I'm NOT "everyone else!" I'm Darria! When are we going to stop moving like robots and be who God created us to be? Everyone can't be a follower...someone has to lead...

Last night was a fairytale....

Ok so I changed a little lyrics in the title of this post. If anyone knows Taylor Swift's song "Today Was A Fairytale" then you immediately caught that....for all those that didn't know the song....well then Here it is!

But back to why "Last Night" was a fairytale...I went to prom last night with a guy named Sam. We had the absolute best time! I told ya'll in my last post that we would but I didn't have any idea that we have THAT much fun! We danced to practically all the songs they played...unless of course we were thirsty or just really really hot. He twirled me to "Carolina Girls" and if there WAS a contest going on (there wasn't) we won! But he treated me like an abosolute princess! :) He opened every door I went through and helped me get out of the car and everything! I'll post pics of us when we get them uploaded and eveything...but I HAD to come up here and tell ya'll allllllll about it! It was the time of my life! Thanks again Sam... :)

PROM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and some other stuff....but mainly prom.

So to go ahead and get this out in the open...MY school isn't having a prom ('member I'm homeschooled?). But that doesn't mean I can't get asked to go to another one. I'm telling you this because when I told one of my friends he said, "Homeschool has a prom?!" hahahahahha......Yeah its going to be a prom that consists of three people...funnnnn......hahahahahahah

Anyways.......we aren't having school today due to hair and makeup. I'm sooooo upset! Gosh..... ; ) I have some reallllllllly thick curly hair. So we have to straighten it, to curl it. I know awkward setup. But it works! I'm trusting my stylist...who also happens to be my cousin, Sharon Godley. (She does great work! you can see my hair down at the end of this post) Down here in the south, everyone is kin. And if you aren't? No worries. We'll make you feel like you are. We will make you milk the cow, and feed the chickens, and pick the veggies out of the garden so you can eat. Ok....we don't have chickens or cows....but we do have a garden. But we won't make you go eat out of it for breakfast. We have a pantry. Ok off subject.......

Back to prom. I'm going with my best friend, Hannah's, older brother. Who's name is Sam. We are gonna have fun because we are fun people. We can turn a walk through a graveyard to the funnest thing you've ever done in your life. Its just how we are... : ) hahahahaha so as you can tell I'm just a 'little' excited.

Moving on...so this week was revival at my church. The guest preacher's name was Craig Hagan. He was reallllly good.....Tuesday night my preacher, Mr. Bob. asked me to sing Thursday night. This means that I had to find two songs to sing and practice them in less than two days. No pressure...right? Wrong. I freaked. Not in front of him. I was cool, calm and collected. So I decided to sing "Cannons." (You can hear the song HERE!) And "Go Light Your World." (You can here this one RIGHT HERE!)
The work of Sharon Godley. My pretty pretty prom dress!

That's ALL folks!

What I'm all about...

If anyone is wondering how I got the name "Heaven is Gain," I will tell you right now. I am a big fan of the smell of Gain Original Fresh. Not Gain Spring Lavender or any other kind. I like to keep things old school with the ORIGINAL scent. I am known to run down the detergent aisles at Wal-Mart in search of my beloved Gain. If they come out with a perfume that smells like Gain, you can bet your bottom dollar, I will be first in line to buy it.
I'm also a Christian. I love Jesus with everything that I have in me! So its kinda a play on words...Heaven is Gain (like the detergent) and Heaven is gain (like gaining eternal life). Get it? If you don't that's ok. I'm not going to sue you. Or chase you down with german shepherds. Or lick all your silverware. Or spit in your milk...
Now for me. I'm gonna tell you about me. My name is Darria (it's pronounced DARE-E-UH). Lots of people mispronounce my name. It doesn't really bother me. But I thought that if you are going to be reading this blog, you should know how to pronounce my name. Anyways...I have a brother named Anderson who is eleven and a sister named Finley who is eight. I love them to death! My mom's name is Faith and my dad's name is Andy. Again, I love them. Wouldn't trade 'em for all the boxes of Gain in the world! I love to sing and read. My favorite author is Jenny B. Jones. She is absolutely hilarious! I don't really have a favorite singer/band...I like pretty much all types of music so its kinda hard to choose just one...and if I named them all, we would be sitting here till the cows came home (I don't know where the cows have been).
I guess that's enough for now...
